Andrea Brewer

I am a Watlington-based artist creating abstract ceramic sculpture. Drawn to clay for its blend of creativity and science, I developed my handbuilding style after training in ceramics and during an artist residency in North London. In 2019 I launched ABCeramics, and with the support of Oxfordshire Artweeks started working professionally on commissions and exhibitions.

The spiral has become a key theme to my work, both as an aesthetically pleasing form and as a significant symbol found throughout life and the universe – from plant growth, shells and weather patterns to DNA, Fibonacci sequences and galaxies. I often impress bark and leaf textures directly into clay, exploring the dialogue between nature and the man-made. Using stoneware with grog and my own recipe dry matt glazes, I create surfaces that recall lichens, patinas and decay. My work reflects on time, transformation, and the ways nature ultimately reclaims all things
