David Farrer

Born in Leeds, I grew up exploring museums and the countryside of North Yorkshire, experiences that sparked a lifelong fascination with the natural world. Raised in the village of Spofforth near Harrogate, I later lived in Masham, Knaresborough, rural Surrey and the Cotswolds, landscapes that continue to inspire my work. I studied Fine Art in Sunderland and The Hague, specialising in printmaking and graduating in 1990. Alongside drawing and printmaking, wildlife photography provides reference for my sculpture. Travel, particularly to Africa, has been central to developing my understanding of animal form through direct observation. I am also involved with the Kenya-based wildlife conservation charity ARR at their Naivasha reserve.
